Picnic week shenanigans

An Outdoors Family picnic

It’s National Picnic Week! The weather was brilliant yesterday, a few light showers aside, it was dry and the sun was shining! We’re still busy training for our summer challenge (less than 3 weeks to go!!) so after spending the morning on the hills, reaching the top of Ben Gulabin by Glen Shee, we legged it down to Linn of Dee, desperate for the shade of the riverside and the tall pine trees swaying high in the air.

We found a lovely little area near the river, surrounded by trees that were the perfect place to try out Keith’s new slackline we bought him for his birthday earlier this year. We all had a few goes, wobbling, giggling and falling off! It reminded me of a few years ago when we went on holiday and I had my first go on a SUP… all wobbles, all giggles, and yes, plenty of falling off!! Some things never change 🙂

After having had our fill of food, we went to the river and dabbled our toes. The water was lovely and warm in the small sheltered area we found and our son had a great time throwing in rocks, trying to skim stones before dunking his head in the water to cool off. It was so nice sitting there and listening to the sounds of the river, in no rush whatsoever and just having a bit of a laugh.

I can’t wait to do more of that over the summer. And definitely have a few more picnics.

What are your favourite picnic spots or family favourite recipes? Leave your recommendation below, we’re all stuffed from sausage rolls! 🙂

A special thank you to B&M stores for the picnic set. It’s a great family set, complete with blanket and an enormous bag that you can store all your goodies in!
