I'm not going to lie, I'm feeling a bit emotional I'm not going to lie, I'm feeling a bit emotional right now πŸ™ˆ. Travel restrictions are being lifted early THIS Friday! I'm excited, our 9yo has already named it Freedom Friday and plans are being made!

I'm looking forward to getting away from this city that we've been in lockdown since November! 😫 I'm looking forward to slow days spent in them there hills with these three (without a doubt the best in the world, but hey, I'm totally biased there! πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ) I'm looking forward to days where we can challenge ourselves like we used to, to try to reach the summit and overcome whatever the days throw at us together as a family, out in nature we've missed so much! I'm looking forward to days where me and Keith can be our usual exhausted self (sleep deprivation/stubborn 2yo/ home educating 9yo - I'm looking at you!) but where we feel our absolute best in the outdoors! Because everything feels so much better outside doesn't it!?!

See you on the hills guys!!! πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³πŸ˜„

While our eldest was off kayaking with his club, K While our eldest was off kayaking with his club, Keith took our youngest out in the canoe... last time he did that, our youngest was about 12 months old or so... now he's nearly 3yo, with a wonderful sense of self and a strong stubborn streak!! I forgot how magical being out on the water is with kids though! He sat still for over 2hrs, blissfully happy watching the world go by, helping Keith paddle by using his in the water "to be the engine" and insisting they go down some "bumpy bits" on the nearby rapids.

They all had huge grins on their faces, it was a really great reintroduction to rivers for both of the kids! Magic πŸ’«

How was your weekend? Any fun adventures or exploring somewhere new? Also let us know what your best tips are for your kids staying safe on the water?

Our 9yo is super excited today! That's his canoe c Our 9yo is super excited today! That's his canoe club about to start up again after about 5 months or so, today's plan is a river meet and tomorrow, it's a trip out to a deserted island for hot chocolate and marshmallows πŸ˜‹

This picture was from 7yrs ago on our very first canoe camping trip in the NW of Scotland.

4 years ago today we were heading off to bag 4 mun 4 years ago today we were heading off to bag 4 munros in the Cairngorms with a summit wildcamp. I can't remember how far we walked/ascent etc πŸ™ˆ but I can remember the beauty of the place, the grin my son had when we got out a surprise cupcake for him to celebrate bagging his 20th munro, walking past huge herds of deer, seeing one of the most beautiful sunsets, my son running and laughing wildly with a headtorch once it had gotten dark, the feeling of just being in the moment, taking the day as it came, one step after another.

While we didn't bag the 4th munro the following morning, that was the day my son listened to his body, knew he didn't have it in him to make it to the top and back to the van even though we were within spitting distance of it. For a 5yr old that takes some doing eh? We couldn't have been more prouder of him, so we headed back to the van and played in the river, ending our weekend adventure on a very giggly high πŸ’«

He did a happy dance yesterday when I told him we can plan big mountain days next month! I can't blooming wait either!!! πŸŽ‰πŸ˜†πŸŽ‰πŸ•πŸŽ‰πŸžπŸŽ‰

Happy first day of Spring!! 🌻🌸🌺🌿🌼 Happy first day of Spring!! 🌻🌸🌺🌿🌼

A beautiful start to the day this morning with loads of colours, tree climbing, exploration and lots of little ponds full of frogspawn and noisy frogs! 🐸🐸🐸

Forever thankful for mornings like this. Dundee Forever thankful for mornings like this.

Dundee has been in a 5mile travel restriction past the city boundary, since November... 5 months and counting... places like this are within reach and totally worth the early wake up to start the day off the right way πŸ’«

Looking forward to when we can plan bigger days out, not just at the parks, but to the mountains. I'm thinking trips for days on end, with nothing but adventure on our mind, tent and sleeping bags in our bags and no one around for miles and miles........ anyone else?

"Children still need a childhood with dirt, mud, p "Children still need a childhood with dirt, mud, puddles, trees, sticks and tadpoles." ~ Brooke Hampton

I love this quote! My kids are always happier outside (me too!), even when it feels getting out the door is the biggest hurdle sometimes!

I've recently been gifted this lightweight waterproof jacket from @trespass to try out. I'm always critical about gear, especially when it has to see me through long days with the kids. I really liked this one though; it was warm, comfy, kept me dry in passing rain showers and is machine washable too, a little bit of mud won't stop me from having cuddles with this guy!

Link is in the bio if you fancy a quick read of the features and the one and only thing I would change about it..

Family 😍 My dad's having radiotherapy to trea Family 😍

My dad's having radiotherapy to treat his second brain tumour. It's going ok, but he's not out of the woods just yet. He's always got a huge grin for the boys but I notice little things every time I talk with him online...

We're also now in a Tier 3 area so planned roadtrips have been cancelled, there's snow on them there far away hills and it's my 40th today πŸ₯‚ though I don't mind that last one so much! I'm loving growing older with Keith and the boys, but I totally blame them for my grey hairs and all the laughter lines! 🀣

"I love those random memories that make me smile no matter what's going on in my life right now"

So while my head might be a bit noisier worrying about my dad, the boys are shining bright, with that magical way kids have of living in the moment, the here and now. πŸ’« And I'm beyond grateful that I can speak with my dad later today! Here's to another year of making random memories!

Picture taken a few months ago at our favourite place in NW Scotland.
