Going to the mountains is going home ~ John Muir

My absolute favourite place is anywhere with big mountain views! We couldn't hang about on the hills at the weekend because of the weather, but we're loving that it's not getting dark till past 5pm now! And we're getting pretty excited for lazy summer days on the hills! What about you? Any summer hikes planned?

We found the perfect spot for our lunch yesterday, what a view!
That's hill no.2 for my 40 hill challenge. A corbett near Glenshee called Creag nan Gabhar, just over 7km with 430m ascent. We found snow for our eldest to have a sledge and saw mountain hares, grouse and deer which gave baby the giggles! And did I mention that views 😍

Our first hill of the year yesterday (and first of my 40 hill challenge) and we absolutely loved it! We had such a giggle considering we've not done any serious hiking in ages. It was only a 3hr hike so we had plenty of time for exploration and sooo much puddle jumping!

10 years ago we were hiking the Dientes de Navarino trek in Tierra del Fuego. It is without a doubt, STILL one of the toughest challenges I've done! .
This year, I've set my sights on a few more challenges to celebrate my 40th too.

Challenge 1; Take part in the @1000hoursoutside challenge, resetting the balance between outdoor time and screen time. There’s a tracker sheet you can print off, with circles to colour, each one marking an hour outside. Does it sound daunting? 1000 hours outside? Yes! Do we think we can do it? We’re game to give it a try! And it might just help me on my way to my second challenge…

Challenge 2; run /walk 40km each week. This is my main challenge which sounds a bit out of reach at the minute. I used to run on the treadmill before having baby, but issues with my hip stopped that and made walking incredibly painful. Physiotherapy has helped, but I've still got A LOT of weight to lose... Challenge 3; 40 hills before the end of the year. That's it! I'm looking forward to this challenge and seeing as it's something we enjoy as a family, there'll be a few wild camps in the mix too 😏

Wide open spaces under never ending skies make our top 9 for 2019 - it's been a fun year and we've been to some pretty awesome places. It's not always been straight forward (as getting out with kids can sometimes be...🙈) but we're feeling incredibly lucky to have had the adventures we've had!! Roll on next year!
