The Coral Beach, Isle of Skye

Posted on January 11, 2016January 12, 2016 by an outdoors family

We’ve been to the Coral Beach on the Isle of Skye a few times now. The first time was on our first wedding anniversary over 12 years ago. The last time we wentย there,ย I was about 4 months pregnant with our son. Five years later, we were back with our son and decided a visit there […]

"Children still need a childhood with dirt, mud, p "Children still need a childhood with dirt, mud, puddles, trees, sticks and tadpoles." ~ Brooke Hampton

I love this quote! My kids are always happier outside (me too!), even when it feels getting out the door is the biggest hurdle sometimes!

I've recently been gifted this lightweight waterproof jacket from @trespass to try out. I'm always critical about gear, especially when it has to see me through long days with the kids. I really liked this one though; it was warm, comfy, kept me dry in passing rain showers and is machine washable too, a little bit of mud won't stop me from having cuddles with this guy!

Link is in the bio if you fancy a quick read of the features and the one and only thing I would change about it..

My dad's having radiotherapy to treat his second brain tumour. It's going ok, but he's not out of the woods just yet. He's always got a huge grin for the boys but I notice little things every time I talk with him online...

We're also now in a Tier 3 area so planned roadtrips have been cancelled, there's snow on them there far away hills and it's my 40th today ๐Ÿฅ‚ though I don't mind that last one so much! I'm loving growing older with Keith and the boys, but I totally blame them for my grey hairs and all the laughter lines! ๐Ÿคฃ

"I love those random memories that make me smile no matter what's going on in my life right now"

So while my head might be a bit noisier worrying about my dad, the boys are shining bright, with that magical way kids have of living in the moment, the here and now. ๐Ÿ’ซ And I'm beyond grateful that I can speak with my dad later today! Here's to another year of making random memories!

I can't tell you how much I needed this yesterday I can't tell you how much I needed this yesterday - time spent outdoors clearing my mind, strengthening sluggish legs and reinvigorating my soul ๐Ÿ’ซ

It reminded me not to dwell and to focus on what's important. That it's ok to redefine and reinforce boundaries. That if something doesn't feel right anymore, listen to those insticts. And that I've never had much time for people who are happy to dish it out, but can't take it!

Anyway, back to the important stuff! This walk is a beauty! A short hike at 5km with about 224m ascent, views across Loch Tay and you see all that cloud over the other side? They're coating the Lawers range with a fresh coat of snow!! โ„โ„๐ŸŽ‰

Happiness is.... finding a muddy swamp on a rainy Happiness is.... finding a muddy swamp on a rainy day

Warm and dry kids = happy kids = happy mum and dad. We're always impressed with the @didriksons_kids Boardman suit!

The mud washes off (ready for next time ๐Ÿ˜…) and the memories they've made will stay with them...

Didriksons have made a few changes to the suit since our last review so I've updated it over on the blog today โฌ‡๏ธ

What other brands would you recommend for keeping outdoorsy kids warm and dry at this time of year?

Here's to the oncoming season of bobble hats and snow on the hills, to no matter how tired you feel on the big days that your grin never falters! I don't know about you but I'm ready for it!

Also thought it was about time I put a square on here for my kids at least once this year ๐Ÿคญ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Loved the autumn colours on a walk at Killiecranki Loved the autumn colours on a walk at Killiecrankie at the weekend, it's always our favourite time of year to explore this area ๐Ÿ‚

I'll post more about this walk over on the route section of the blog later this week but if you're looking for a short walk in Perthshire with a bit of history, a bit of wildlife and lots of trains, mud and puddles (unless that's just our 2yo... ๐Ÿคญ) this walk might be for you ๐Ÿ‚

Where are your favourite autumn walks?

Stretching our legs on a walk straight from the ca Stretching our legs on a walk straight from the campsite never looked so good!

It was the first time we'd been out in our van since we gave it a re-do. The boys are getting bigger and it's always bit of a squash, but I think we found a design that will work for the next few years at least! Here's hoping anyway! We're excited that the possibility for longer trips away looks like it can be a reality again... plans for when the world is less crazy at least ๐Ÿคž
